New Palm Treo 680

Palm has announced the new Palm Treo 680. The new smartphone comes in four colors (arctic, copper, Crimson and Graphite) and believe me this is an added feature, considering the fierce competition in the smartphone and mobile phone market in general.

As far as wireless connectivity goes the phone offers the GSM/GPRS/EDGE-class 10 radio protocols (Quad band (850/900/1800/1900 MHz)), Bluetooth and Infrared. (No WiFi).

The phone also offers 64MB of flash memory, a digital camera, an embedded keyboard, expansion slot (which you will most probably need) and runs on Palm OS® 5.4.9.

The new Treo looks like a decent device to have and use. The only turn-off is the lack of WiFi connectivity and this is a marketing strategy that Palm keeps repeating model after model; leaving a key feature (that most probably potential buyers would love to have) out of the package.  I hope one day though to see a device like the Treo 680 that will include all types of connectivities, from WiFi to EDGE, which will feel like a true mobile tool.
