TV downloads from Xbox Live

Xbox Live, Microsoft’s video game service, will be offering tv and movie downloads starting 22 November, 2006. The announcement comes after agreements between Microsoft and Hollywood Studios, which will allow the game service to sell shows such as South Park and movies such as Mission Impossible III (ok…bad example of a movie).

This move, on behalf of Microsoft, antagonises Apple’s iTunes store and Amazon’s sales of video downloads over the internet. What will be more interesting to see, is whether sales of the hardware (Xbox and iPod) will drive the video sales online or vice versa.
